Michelle and Abdulkamal | Joslyn Art Museum

Our love story began on a warm Sunday evening in the fall of 2017 while we were both MBA students at UCLA Anderson. Abdulkamal had just returned from a solo trip to Vegas during which he painfully realized that he was tired of the solo life. On his way back, he texted his classmate, friend, and confidant, Michelle, and asked her if she would meet up with him at a romantic outdoor bar in Westwood (the neighborhood by UCLA). Michelle already had her eye on Abdulkamal and responded with an enthusiastic “yes”. To her bewilderment, however, Abdulkamal didn’t offer to pay for her drink when she arrived. He then spent the next hour talking about everything but why he asked her to meet up with him in the first place. Fortunately, he finally got really serious and told Michelle that he really likes her and would like to date her. This was a very busy time for Michelle, as she was working on her thesis project while handling her duties as student body president.  Over the next month or so, they met up when Michelle’s schedule would allow – during dog walks (Abdulkamal’s favorite!), for a quick lunch or some light drinks here and there. Slowly, Michelle grew more and more fond of “Kamal”.
